Dear
friend,
In the early 80's I seriously considered invitations to lead a Christian
ministry into Eastern Europe. It was an enormous challenge and a
ministry dear to my heart, but the Lord did not open that door for
me. It was to be nearly 20 years before God gave me the privilege
of ministering directly in Eastern Europe. In 200I, shortly before
I was laid aside, I spent about a week in Southern Romania and as
part of that visit, I preached in the Baptist Church in Turnu-Magurele.
I
have a tremendous admiration for the ministry there of Pastor George
Stancu and his wife Ligia. George has responsibility for 6 churches,
but the largest is in Turnu. They have 50 members and meet in a
rented building that is far from suitable. The church acquired a
plot of land some years ago and was prepared to erect a building
themselves, but they have never had the resources. Around £12,000
would enable them to fulfill their dream of a suitable place to
worship and witness.
2hearts
project 2007
For
some time I have been challenged to do something but due my illness,
I have always hesitated. I met George and Ligia again in the autumn
of last year when they were here in Ireland and my heart was moved
once more. I believe the Lord is leading me to launch a Fund to
raise at least £12,000. I have never before attempted such
a thing and I begin with no resources and little strength. But I
am trusting the Lord in this and have suggested that George and
the church submit plans and prepare to commence the construction
when the winter is over. If they can make an early start, it is
just possible the building could be completed this year.
If you or your church would like to be associated with this project,
I would be grateful for any contribution, large or small. This is
a personal project of ours but has the support and practical assistance
of two local Trusts. Christian Care Trust already supports ministry
to young people in the region and it was with them that I ministered
in 2001. For many years, Christian Fellowship Trust has supported
missionary projects and they have kindly agreed to administer the
finances. (I have been invited to become a trustee of CFT.) All
gifts will be acknowledged and forwarded when the church in Romania
needs them.
Any
contribution should be sent to me at the address on this letter
and cheques made out to: Christian Fellowship
Trust – 2hearts project.
If
you would like to introduce this project to your people in church
or any other meeting, I will take some bookings. These will have
to be limited due to my illness but Mr. Tom Cairns of Christian
Care Trust, who knows George and the church very well indeed, has
very kindly offered to take meetings for me when I am not fit. A
visual presentation will be available.
I
am very excited at the possibility of seeing a new building for
the glory of God in a very needy part of Romania. I thank you in
anticipation of your fellowship and particularly for your prayers.
Please
continue to visit this site for continuous updates on the project.
May
the Lord be pleased to use us together, with our brothers and sisters
in Romania, to glorify His Name and spread His truth in 2007.
In
grace,
David
and Joanna McFarland
